There is one disadvantage: the ticket cannot yet be used for excursions at Easter.

It’s finally fixed!

The federal and state governments have agreed to start the 49-euro monthly ticket for local transport on May 1st.

That said NRW Transport Minister Oliver Krischer (53, Greens) as Chairman of the Transport Ministers’ Conference on Friday after the meeting of a federal-state working group. The approval of the EU Commission is still pending.

Finance Minister Christian Lindner (44, FDP) confirmed the new start date. He called the 49-euro ticket on Twitter “the biggest public transport tariff reform in the history of Germany”.

However, the agreement also means that the new low-cost ticket cannot yet be used for excursions over Easter.
