The municipality of Trondheim received a nasty surprise.

There were plenty of people in Trondheim’s World Championships. Nevertheless, the event threatens to remain a deficit. Pasi Liesimaa

The Trondheim World Championships in March 9 are still talking in Norway-though not in a positive light.

The Trondheim Municipal Audit Board has begun to devote the economic benefit of the World Cup, and there have been unexpected expenses.

– When the updated financial statements are missing almost three months after the Games and at the same time there are cases of recovery and major unexpected invoices, we must question financial management. I am worried about how things have been handled, chairman of Trondheim Municipal Audit Board Gjermund Bungum Gorset says the Norwegian magazine For VG.

The expectation was that the competitions would result in profits of about EUR 1.7 million. Now it is feared that the World Championships will become a deficit.

The municipality of Trondheim has only 10 % of the World Cup, but the municipality has invested large sums for the World Cup.

Gorset told the magazine that the municipality has given about EUR 8.5 million for race activities, has been guaranteed by about 1.5 million and invested approximately EUR 96 million in the Granåsen Ski Resort.

– Despite these extensive investments, it seems that the event is in danger of ending up in a significant financial deficit.

The Audit Board has invited the municipal owner representatives to the meeting on 5 June.

Mayor attend the meeting Kent Ranumcity councilor responsible for financial matters Kjtilin reinskouCFO Olaf Løberg and the leader of cultural, sports and outdoor activities Ola by Rise.
