Markus Granlund gets sidelined from real activities for a long time.

The Swiss club HC Lugano announced that their 30-year-old Finnish striker will have to undergo surgery. Granlund collided with an opponent in last week’s match against the ZSC Lions. In the situation, Granlund hurt his left knee so badly that it had to be operated.

According to the club’s estimate, Granlund will be sidelined for four to five months. This means that the season is almost certainly over for Granlund. If the recovery progresses on a fast schedule, he might get to the rink in the playoffs.

Before his injury, Granlund managed to forge 4+12 performances in 20 matches for Lugano. Last season, he scored 22+23=45 in 47 regular season matches.

Granlund was part of the Lions’ Olympic gold-winning team at the Beijing Winter Games. In the NHL, Granlund played 335 games in seven seasons, scoring 58 goals and 43 assists leading to goals.
