The Nobel Committee refused to extend the terms of the nomination because of Zelensky

The charter does not allow extending the deadline for nominating candidates for the Nobel Prize, the head of the Nobel Institute said. Earlier, European politicians asked to reopen the acceptance of applications for the nomination of Zelensky

The charter does not allow extending the deadline for nominating candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, Olav Njolstad, head of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, told RBC, commenting on the initiative to nominate Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

Zelensky was nominated for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize on March 18 by former and current European politicians. They also announced the need for this to extend the deadline for nominating candidates for the award until March 31.

Njolstad confirmed to RBC that the committee could add additional names to the list before the first meeting. However, he said that it took place on February 28.

At the same time, he refused to comment on the specific situation with the Ukrainian president. “As a matter of principle, we never comment on the potential candidacy of any person or organization,” Njolstad said.
