We mark off the last days on the calendar. Always a good time to look back on the year that has almost passed. Which videos, stories and events from NH Sport were so beautiful, special or fun in 2023 that we want to highlight them one more time? Today: the AZ youth are conquering Europe.
Who would have thought that? A ceremony on Saturday evening in April on the Waagplein in Alkmaar with several thousand spectators. Not for the AZ first team, but for AZ Under 18s.
They have written their own boys’ book. Defeated renowned European top clubs to ultimately wipe out Hajduk Split 5-0 in the final.
Names such as Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro, Kees Smit, Mexx Meerdink, Jayden Addai and Ernest Poku are no longer unknown.
World Cup
After the ceremony at the end of April, AZ will compete for the World Cup against their peers from Boca Juniors in September. In Argentina the final ends in a 1-1 draw the penalty shootout is lost.
The following youth team from AZ has now managed to winter in the Youth League in the current season. This has been achieved for the third consecutive year.
