For a long time, the new wave song “Subways of your mind” of the band Fex was “lost”. In the meantime he has been released and can be heard on record or at any streaming services.
Since 2007 he has made the round on the Internet under the name “Most Mysterious Song”. The search for the right title of the song and the artist lasted. However, it has been clear since 2024: The track has been identified as “subways of your mind” of the German band Fex.
Now he can be heard here:
The history
The origins of the piece with the mysterious name can probably be found in 1984 – in the young music fan named Darius S. from Wilhelmshaven. Like many others at that time, Darius took songs that he liked from the radio on cassette. Darius’ sister Lydia digitized and for the first time in 2007 invited a section of the song to the Internet. The song circulated on the Internet in the following 12 years, but did not remain identifiable.
A Reddit user was able to better filter out “Subways of your mind” and explained in his contribution that the puzzle began to solve itself after finding an old article about Fex from Kiel during the research according to bands that occurred at an annual event called Hörfest. He turned to one of the members and asked if he still had old shots. One of them was entitled “Subways of your mind” and it was actually the song.
Michael Hädrich, member of Fex, said that after the Reddit member had contacted him, he contacted his old bandmates, bass players Norbert Ziermann and the guitarist and singer Ture Rückwart, all of whom are still active in the music industry.
What has happened since then?
A lot has happened since the successful identification of the song. “Subways of your mind” is released by FEX together with the Berlin independent label The Outer Edge twice. First with the help of the version of the demo chain, And after the radio recordings of the NDR had been found, they were also newly mastered and passed on to the plate pressing plant. The first version was already a success and the second also gives hope for similar things.
Fex does not want to rush anything and has not yet decided on the further steps. There are a total of six songs from the band on the demo cassette, not enough for an album-but there have also been other cassettes.
