Hannah Hampton parried two penalty for England in the European Championship final. The goalkeeper is then proud. Also because she was once told that she couldn’t play football through her illness.

England and Spain made it exciting until the end. In the end, the victory over the European Championship in penalty was decided – and Hannah Hampton kept his nerve there. The goal hero of the “Lionesses” parried two shots by the Spaniards – including that of world footballer Aitana Bonmatí – and won the title for the second time. Even though she was told as a child that she could never become a football star-because of her eyes.

The 24-year-old was born with severe eye disease and had to undergo several operations. To date, she has problems with deep perception – which is actually important for a goalkeeper. Hampton explained the BBC Sport: “I was told from an early age that I couldn’t play football that it is not a job that I can do. But here I am.”

The sports show also said: “I always believed it. I can say that I have proven the opposite with my season at Chelsea – and now I’m here.” With FC Chelsea, Hampton won the triple of championship, trophy and league cup last season. Now she is also a European champion again and has a large part in it herself.

The “Dailymail” reports that Hampton had glued a cheat sheet on her arm before the penalty shootout. The preferred corners of the Spaniards were probably noted on that. In the end, England was allowed to cheer – especially thanks to her goalkeeper. Hampton then emphasized at BBC Sport: “It will take a while until we understand it. We are the team that never gives up and we got the result for it today.”

The goalkeeper also explained that the team helped her to deal with things before the tournament. What exactly, Hampton did not go into that. However, she said: “And to stand here now and to be a European champion for the second time is incredible.”
