After the defense against three match balls, Alex de Minaur won the ATP tournament’s final in the US capital Washington. The Australian, placed on number seven, defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina from Spain 5: 7, 6: 1, 7: 6 (7: 3).
In the third set, De Minaur had already returned 2: 5. But his opponent could not keep the lead. At 5: 4, Davidovich Fokina awarded three match balls and then also lost the fourth final of his career.
De Minaur, who celebrated his tenth victory on the tour, said after the match that he never doubted that he was still being able to turn the game. “Somehow I knew that I could make it,” said the 26-year-old. “He fought for every ball, he deserved the victory,” said Davidovich Fokina.
