With Sergio Romero as a figure, the Xeneize prevailed in the definition by penalty shootout. Thus, it became the only Argentine club in the semifinals in this edition of the highest regional competition. In this way, Boca beat Racing in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Copa Libertadores and qualified for the semifinals, where they will face the Brazilians from Palmeiras.
After another goalless draw in 90 minutes, as in the first leg, Boca and Racing had to go to a penalty shootout. There, the Rivera club converted all the kicks, while Romero saved two shots from Avellaneda’s team, leaving them out of the most important continental cup at the club level.
