The visit of Juan Grabois to the residence of the German-American businessman Peter Thiel in Barrio Parque, revealed by NOTICIAS, generated surprise in the political sphere, by bringing together in the same space two figures who represent deeply contrasting ideological visions on capitalism, the role of the State and the global order. The meeting was interpreted as an attempt at dialogue between universes that rarely intersect. On the one hand, that of global technological libertarian thought and, on the other, that of social activism linked to Peronism and the social doctrine of the Church.

The dissemination of the meeting, in addition to surprising, revealed various questions to the leader of the Great Homeland Front by the leaders of the extreme left, aligned with Trotskyism. The reference of Workers Party, Gabriel Solanoon his X account, posted: “Grabois started voting for Massa, then asking for a front with Pichetto and now he meets with Peter Thiel. It could always be worse.”

Although no exhaustive official details were released about the content of the meeting, it emerged that the conversation revolved around topics such as the future of capitalism, the impact of technology on work, social inequality and the role of Latin America on the global stage. In this framework, Grabois would have raised his concern about social exclusion and the advance of economic models that, according to his vision, deepen the concentration of wealth, while Thiel would have presented his view on technological innovation as a driver of structural transformation.

Thiel is one of the most influential names in contemporary technological capitalism. Born in Germany and raised in the United States, he established himself as an entrepreneur in the late 1990s as co-founder of PayPal, one of the first large-scale digital payments platforms. The sale of the company to eBay in 2002 allowed him to consolidate an initial fortune that he later multiplied through strategic investments in emerging technology companies. He was an early investor in Facebook, where he acquired a significant stake before its global expansion, and was also involved in financing big data companies such as Palantirspecialized in data analysis and linked to intelligence and security agencies.

Through his Founders Fund and other investment structures, Thiel bet on high-risk projects linked to artificial intelligence, biotechnology and space exploration. His career is marked by a combination of business intuition and disruptive ideological positions. Defender of a libertarian vision of the market, he has openly questioned liberal democracy in traditional terms, going so far as to propose that economic freedom may be incompatible with certain contemporary political systems. He has also endorsed political figures such as Donald Trump and financed candidates aligned with a conservative agenda in the United States.

This vision of the world places him in tension with the thoughts of the late Pope Francis, whose social doctrine emphasizes distributive justice, inclusion and criticism of what he calls “throwaway economy.” While the Argentine Pope has repeatedly denounced the effects of deregulated financial capitalism and has called for building a more humane economic system, Thiel represents a current that prioritizes technological innovation, competition and capital accumulation as engines of progress. In different international forums, the contrast between both views was pointed out as a reflection of contemporary debates about the future of capitalism.

In this context, the meeting with Grabois takes on a symbolic dimension. The social leader, close to Jorge Bergoglio and a reference for popular movements, has built his speech in defense of excluded sectors and in criticism of the economic structures that generate inequality. His presence at the residence of one of the most emblematic exponents of global technological capitalism was interpreted as a gesture of dialogue, but also as a sign of the complexity of the current political scenario.

Juan Grabois,

Beyond the meeting, Solano’s tweet had a poisonous memory when recalling the 2023 presidential campaign, in which Grabois competed in the PASO within Unión por la Patria, facing Sergio Massa. After the internal defeat, he publicly announced his support for the then Minister of Economy ahead of the general elections. That support was made explicit in August 2023, when he called to vote for Massa in the runoff as a way to stop the advance of Javier Milei.

His political positioning also showed later nuances. In 2024 and early 2025, in the midst of the reorganization of Peronism after the electoral defeat, Grabois raised the need to build a broad front that included different sectors of the political arc. In this context, he surprised by mentioning the possibility of articulating agreements with leaders such as Miguel Ángel Pichetto, historical reference of federal Peronism with much more conservative positions. His statements, broadcast in radio and television interviews, generated internal debate within the opposition space, since they implied openness to alliances that until then seemed unlikely.

Even though the meeting between legislator K and the billionaire did not lead to concrete agreements or public announcements, it left behind a powerful image: that of an Argentine social leader talking with one of the architects of the new digital capitalism.
