The Last of Us: Part I for PC: launch, price and requirements

Naughty Dogs’ post-apocalyptic action-adventure finally comes to PC, 10 years after its PlayStation release. However, the long wait is rewarded with the best version of the title so far.

The Last of Us: Part I is a complete remake of the original 2013 title that never got a PC version. The game was released for the PlayStation 5 in September 2022. But now, after a delay of several months, it is finally available as a Windows version.

The Last of Us: Part I for PC brings new features

The remake of the PS3 classic already looks great on the PlayStation 5. Both graphics and mechanics are strongly based on the successor “The Last of Us: Part II”, which was released in 2020. However, the Windows version brings some PC-centric features that can make the gaming experience even better.

Among other things, “The Last of Us: Part I” for PC supports AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.2 (FSR 2.2) and Nvidia Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). These are so-called upscaling technologies that can upscale an image in a lower resolution to a higher resolution. Current versions of these technologies can produce upscaled images that in many situations are indistinguishable from actual higher resolution images. The advantage: the graphics card has to put fewer resources into higher resolutions.

The VSync technology for adjusting the FPS rate (frames per second) to the refresh rate of the monitor, which is mandatory for PC games, is also on board. The Windows version also has the option to cap the FPS rate. Things like texture quality, shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion are also adjustable. The Last of Us: Part I for PC supports 4K resolution and – unlike the PS5 version – also runs on ultrawide monitors in 21:9 and 32:9 format.

Additional input methods are also reserved for the PC version. The game even supports the DualSense controller with haptic feedback and dynamic triggers on Windows PCs – but only via cable. Alternatively, DualShock 4 controllers, other gamepads and even a mouse and keyboard can also be used.

These are the PC requirements for The Last of Us: Part I

Due to the detailed graphics of the remake, the requirements of the PC version are quite high. Even in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second (FPS) and low settings, at least an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 gigabytes of VRAM is required. The game also requires 16 gigabytes of RAM and 100 gigabytes of SSD storage. For 4K resolution at 60 FPS and Ultra settings, you’ll need either an Nvidia Geforce GTX 4080 or an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX – both cards far beyond the 1000 euro mark. The RAM requirement also increases to a massive 32 GB. For the golden mean with 60 FPS, 1440p and high settings, the requirements with AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT and Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Ti are at least quite moderate.
