B.he must be an extraordinary “pen”, like Natalia Aspesi, to theorize with sincere personal conviction that there are men who cannot be afforded to lose. Men who must be accepted to share (with others)which must be respected without making a scene.
And have the courage to put it down in black and white, while the funeral is still not celebrated at the #Metoo, remembering another great journalism who recently passed away: its director Eugenio Scalfari.
In the beautiful sentimental portrait that he dedicates to him, Aspesi evokes the charm of the founder of Repubblicaand maliciously recalls how “in Rome, in front of the closed door of Scalfari’s office, colleagues wandered anxious to be received and, among them, a suspicious air of jealousy”.
But that, having always been the director “of great elegance and far-sightedness and democracy, in politics and sentiments, perhaps this is why the women in his life have been, are, intelligent, generous, prudent”.
So what? “A man like that – concludes the journalist – must be respected, you cannot make a scene, embitter him, above all lose him”.
But let’s leave Scalfari and Aspesi alone, indisputable myths, and come to the reader who asks me: can there be men so great that they cannot be questioned?
Personally I think it would be like accepting the theory that behind a great man there can only be a great woman (or more than one), whose greatness and intelligence lies precisely in being “behind”. Which is not on the side, but right behind.
A theory reworked in recent years, precisely in sentimental chronicles, where we tried to tell men, albeit unquestionably large, without their life partners being described as very patient, and for this reason admired. All this with the intent of avoid giving that female step back a positive value or even the chrism of a role to aspire to in life.
Today, thanks to the increased awareness of women, stepping back is not an option. The choice is rather whether to partner with a great man, with all that that entails, or to look for what is best for himself. Somewhere else.
