On Wednesday evening, the World Cup sprint race will be skied on a track built on a famous singing platform, just off the city center.

Most of the athletes of the Finnish team moved to Tallinn on Tuesday and participate in official exercises in the afternoon.

Jasmi Joensuu, who chases the overall win of the Sprint Skiing World Cup, chose otherwise.

– I fly there late on Tuesday evening. Most of the team goes on board, I didn’t want to go there. It’s a short transition.

“Of course, this is also that I don’t want to get sick,” the athlete tells Iltalehti.

This way Joensuu does not participate in the official exercises of Tallinn.

Joensuu has avoided illness this season.

– I guess I’ve been able to rest at the right points. Nor is I very hysterical about the disease, I haven’t been too stressful with it.

The place of the solution

Joensuu leads the sprint World Cup with 148 points to Jonna Sundling. The Swede became ill and is not in the Estonian race.

Nadine Fähndrich of Switzerland is the only one who can no longer threaten the victory of the Finn.

There are two sprint races left. After Tallinn, we will be competing this coming weekend in Lahti.

Joensuu has the opportunity to solve the World Cup victory already in Wednesday’s race time.

-I’m confident that Klaara is doing things, says a 28-year-old skier.

Sprint was competed in Tallinn last two years ago. The place and the course are the same.

– I was tenth then, it was a good race for me. The course is right for me. It has a long fall and then a short finish, it’s the best.

Niskanen fights

The overall women’s World Cup is led by Jessica Diggins.

Kerttu Niskanen is fourth in the overall cup and is aiming for more points in Tallinn. It would be possible for Niskanen to rise at least third past Astrid Slind in Norway.

The difference between the duo in the overall cup is five points. Improving the investment and raising third would mean about EUR 13,500 for Niskanen more prize money.

Joensuu is ranked ten in the overall race.
