Finnish striker Valtteri Puustinen moves to the ranks of the Swedish premier league club Luleå HF for the next season, club announced on Wednesday.
Puustisinen’s contract with the SHL club is for two years.
The 27-year-old forward has spent the previous five seasons in North America, where he has mainly played in the NHL’s farm league in the AHL. Over the years, he accumulated 66 NHL games, in which he scored 7+17=24. On the AHL side, power was accumulated in 276 games, 77+112=189.
The winger played in North America mainly in the organization of the Pittsburgh Penguins, until he was traded in January of this year to the organization of the Colorado Avalanche. However, he did not accumulate any NHL games in Colorado.
– It was a very positive surprise when we found out that Puustinen was available for the SHL. When I’ve been watching matches, he’s been one of the best players I’ve seen, Luleå sporting director Tomas Fröberg says in the club’s press release.
Puustinen is also looking forward to playing in the club.
– I know some Finnish players who play or have played in Luleå, and I have talked a lot Oskari Laaksonen with who only had good things to say.
Luleå announced earlier this week that he had also signed an agreement to return to Europe from North America Joona Koppanen with. Koppanen and Puustinen were teammates for several seasons in the AHL club Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
