Jorge, how did your way in the world of real estate development begin?
Ju: I am an architect. Between 1981 and 1988 I worked in demolitions, above two old Ford trucks. Then I opened a real estate and we traveled to Spain. There we discovered the phenomenon of suburban communities, something that marked me. When returning to Argentina, where insecurity was already an installed concern, I felt that this model had to be replicated, but adapted to our needs.
What was the first project they faced?
Ju: In 1989, together with friends, we developed the post, the first open neighborhood in San Isidro. Then came the Arboleda, Laguna del Sol, the match, Talar del Lake 1 and 2, El Cantón, San Matías, among many others. We always seek to create urbanizations where they did not exist before, generating value with municipal access, roads and links. For example, we promote the Bancalari-Benavídez road in Tigre and the Avenida de los Lagos Bridge in Escobar. We also develop Costa Esmeralda, anticipating the demand for an accessible holiday destination all year.
How do the future of urbanism see today?
Ju: Today we are delivering the Pilar post, the first agroecological neighborhood in the area, with community orchards and fruit trees. We bet on a more sustainable life. Of course, not all projects are specified immediately, some expect their time.
Lulas, how was JPU born?
LG: We bet on Jorge. He was my husband and I sold a field to contribute the initial capital. With another sale by Jorge we built our house and our first building in San Isidro. At first he led the operational and I accompanied from the familiar, with our four children. Then I got more involved and today I spend the general organization and the generational transition.
What advice would you give to those who want to undertake?
LG: That they trust their intuition. It is not necessary to have everything solved to start. Employment is to cheer up. And assembling valuable equipment is fundamental. You can, but accompanied, you get further.
What is JPU’s legacy?
LG: We have developed 16 neighborhoods and more than 12,000 lots. Today more than 60,000 people live in spaces that we once imagine. That, for us, is an immense pride.
