AND A real “series-event” the one that Rai has broadcast in recent weeks and which is now available entirely on Raiplay.
The count of Montecristothe masterpiece of Alexandre Dumas published in episodes between 1844 and 1846, relives in an Italian-French co-production of great breath and emotional tension, thanks also to a photograph that has the advantage of strengthening a timeless story.
Sam Clafin is Edmond Dantès, “The Count of Montecristo” (photo by Claudio Iannone).
After countless television adaptations (from 1966 the first of Rai directed by Edmo Fenoglio), Edmond Dantès has the face of Sam Claflin and the same poetic charm of the novel here.
Unjustly imprisoned in the castle of If, Dantès manages to escape and take possession of a treasure on the island of Montecristo. Assumed the identity of Count of the island, he decides to take revenge on all those who had deprived him of freedom.
The story is one of those epic that trigger the imagination: Published in episodes as an appendix novel has all the typical traits of serialityfrom waiting to adventure to the emotional fascination towards a character who becomes literary myth.
The novel (and the series) is a treatise on the force of love and feelings. To reread a great classic of literature in a contemporary and television key.
