Cause of death

Freddie Mercury, bourgeois Farrokh Bulsara, died on November 24, 1991 at the age of 45 from the consequences of pneumonia. A few years earlier he infected himself with the HIV virus and then suffered from AIDS. The exact time of his infection is still unknown.

Jim Hutton, Mercury’s last partner, stated that Mercury knew about his illness from April 1987. Mercury contested such rumors at that time. According to the Hutton, the other band members of Queen were taught in 1989 about the state of health of the Queen singer, but Brian May dated this event in his biography to January 1991.

Around 1990, the rumors about the disease of Freddie Mercury continued to conduct. The boulevard media plunged on the subject, Paparazzi besieged it whenever they could catch him. Mercury and the closer circle around him did not say a word about a possible HIV infection. The recordings for the last queen album “Innuendo” drew into the length against the background of the increasingly weaker Freddie Mercury, which did not affect the joy of the singer in his work. Quite the opposite. According to Brian May, Mercury wanted to sing more and more songs. “Write me more stuff!”

After the sessions for “Innuendo” ended in June 1991, Mercury traveled back to London from the location of the recordings in Montreux on Lake Geneva. Near the end of his life, his eyesight got worse, so he hardly left the bed. Mercury also only used pain relievers, no longer to possibly extend life -prolonged medication.

On November 23, 1991, he finally let the public know that he was infected with HIV. According to the legendary singer, the protection of his fellow human beings would be based on his illness. About 24 hours later, Freddie Mercury was dead.

What is the difference between AIDS and HIV?

HIV is the virus that can trigger AIDS as a result of an infection. HIV is the abbreviation for Human immunode fi cy virus, so it is an immune deficiency virus. But not every infected person suffers directly from complaints. An intact immune system can initially contain the HIV virus, but it does not remove it. It continues to spread and ultimately causes that the body can no longer be protected from other infections. A simple cold can lead to the death of a data subject, or just pneumonia as in the case of Freddie Mercury.
