After the awarded master match ball from FC Bayern in Leipzig, Joshua Kimmich suddenly hopes for a victory of the rival from Leverkusen.

Julian Buhl reports from Leipzig

Most cameras in the mixed zone were already broken down. Thomas Müller had just exchanged his jersey with ex-national team colleague David Raum in the catacombs of the Leipzig Arena-and, like almost all of his teammates from FC Bayern Munich after the 3: 3 in Leipzig, was already sitting in the team bus. The traveler of the Munich team still had to wait for one of his members: Joshua Kimmich, who still had to go to the doping test. When he had finally fulfilled this obligation over an hour after the game, he stopped on the way to the team bus again with the waiting reporters.

In contrast to most of his previous speakers, Kimmich had no problems accepting congratulations on the championship title. “We are German champions if we are all honest. I don’t believe that Leverkusen wins three times 7-0 and we lose 0: 5 twice,” he said, joking: “Unless there is still any point deduction.”

Two game days before the end, Bayern finally has at least six points ahead of pursuer Bayer Leverkusen and a 30 hits better goal difference. At least because the Werkself only played its game of the 32nd match day at SC Freiburg on Sunday and until then there is even nine points behind the Munich.

Kimmich does not hope for a mistake by the master rival, who would make Bayern directly to the champion. On the contrary: Kimmich doesn’t feel like a sofa championship at all. “I hope that Leverkusen wins tomorrow,” he said. Instead, he prefers to make the championship with Bavaria perfectly in mathematically in the home game against Gladbach next Saturday.

Because that was not quite possible in Leipzig, the master’s jubilee fell out a bit braked there. The team lined up in front of the block of Bayern fans who traveled with them, who held up and sang some cardboard championships: “German champions only become FCB.” The celebration was not really exuberant immediately after the final whistle.

“If we had made 3: 3 shortly before the end, we would now celebrate the championship,” said Kimmich about the Munich Dilemma. “So of course you get 3: 3 in the last second and then it is not quite emotionally celebrating there.”

Kimmich left no doubt that he would have liked to do so in Leipzig at his old place of work. “I would have liked it quite well today,” he said. “Before that, I got up here with Leipzig exactly 11 years ago, so that would have been a round thing.”

The master shell lost to Leverkusen last year, when it comes to Kimmich, is now to stay in Munich again permanently. “I already believe that FC Bayern must be entitled to become a German champion every year,” he said. “We are well on the way and I believe that it will be difficult for Leverkusen to prevent that.”

He believes “that when we are German champions at the end of the season, that it was a well -deserved championship.” The DFB captain referred to a positive development after the “relatively happy” championship two years ago and the Titellosen last season.

Due to the now very dominant championship and a correspondingly high score, he “has the feeling that we are on the right track, even if I see the team”. The corresponding feeling in the cabin is there for each other.
