Kylian Mbappé is the next celebrity to Sebastian Vettel and Lindsey Vonn in the Sailgp sailing series. But what is behind his commitment?
After six months of time, Kylian Mbappé is not only back in the French national team, the exceptional footballer also invests in sailing. Mbappé gets in with the French team of the SailGP series.
The series of sailing, founded in 2019, in which state-of-the-art catamaranes compete against each other, is considered Formula 1 on the water and has also attracted the former F1 champion Sebastian Vettel and Ski Idol Lindsey Vonn.
While Vettel is involved in the German and Vonn with the US-Am-Kanian team, Mbappé is becoming a partner in the “France SailgP Team” through his investment company Coalition Capital. In addition, the foundation of the 2018 football champion, “Inspired by KM”, is the official charity partner of the team.
But what is behind Mbappé’s commitment? The 26-year-old explained his motivation in a press release on Friday as follows: “We are very happy to start this new adventure with the France Sailgp Team, Accor and other investors. I am particularly proud that IBKM can achieve even more young people worldwide through this partnership.”
With his foundation, he wanted to “give young people around the world the strength to believe in their dreams. With our ‘We Care for All’ program, we offer concrete support and hope for those who need the most. Together we build a future in which young people can write their own history and achieve great.”
A total of twelve nations are at the start in the series. In addition to the football superstar, the four-time Formula 1 world champion Vettel joined the German team as an investor in 2023, and Skistar Vonn has been part of the U.S. team’s management group since 2024.
After four out of 14 Grands Prix, the German team is in last place – a rank behind the USA. The Frenchman around helmsman Quentin Delapierre, who also attended the Olympic Games and the legendary America’s Cup, is in seventh place. At 99.94 km/h it holds the speed record of the racing series.
