Even on the day of the master celebration, FC Bayern is said to have tried to convince Florian Wirtz of a change. But the player had doubts at a certain point.

When the sparkling wine cork should actually pop, discussions about the future of a national player were running behind closed doors. FC Bayern apparently tried to convince Florian Wirtz of a change – and even met the offensive player on the day of the master celebration.

According to information from the “Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ)”, the meeting took place on May 18 in a Munich hotel. Accordingly, coach Vincent Kompany, sports director Max Eberl, sports director Christoph Freund as well as the supervisory boards Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß together with CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen sat with the Leverkusener. Before the joint conversation, Kompany also had a one -hour football -tactical four -eye conversation with the player.

A few days later, however, the Wirtz page decided against a move to the German champion. According to the report, Kompany was informed directly by Wirtz. The 22-year-old’s father reported to Eberl and Hoeneß. According to media reports, the offensive player decided to transfer to Liverpool FC.

One reason for the cancellation was “SZ” that Wirtz feared a direct competitive situation with Jamal Musiala. Both players prefer the central offensive position in midfield. At Liverpool, on the other hand, coach Arne Slot presented a model to the DFB international in which the game is to be tailored to him.

Wirtz is under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until June 2027. According to the reporting reports, the club should request a transfer fee of around 150 million euros.
