Musk’s house, since 2020, has already been authorized to produce energy in Great Britain, but not to sell it to the consumer. For the American brand, is it another step towards diversification?
Tesla it could become an electricity supplier in the United Kingdom. The car manufacturer owned by Elon Muskin fact, requested the Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, editor’s note), the British energy regulation authority, the authorization to start the supply of energy in the homes and companies of England, Scotland and Wales. The formal request was signed by Andrew Payneenergy director of the American house in Europe (the document was initially published by Sunday Telegraph). This is not an absolute novelty for Tesla, which is already active in the Energy market in Texas. And also in the United Kingdom the Musk company had already taken its first steps: since 2020 it is in fact authorized to produce overseas energy, but not to sell it directly to consumers.
Another step towards diversification?

The latter move of the American house seems to be a further step towards the diversification of his own core business. For a few months, in fact, due to the increase in competition and the scheme of the alliance (now broken) between Musk and Trump, Tesla is facing one decrease in sales globally. In any case, at least to date, the company does not seem to want to make radical changes concerning its products, despite a list that is now quite dated. Tesla is in fact investing several resources in the development and refinement of its systems of autonomous guide and in the robotaxi production. In addition, as mentioned, in Texas the stars and stripes house is already an energy supplier and now aims to become it also in the United Kingdom, landing in the sector also in Europe (at a purely geographical level, given that London is not part of the EU). If Tesla’s will is to progressively abandon the classic economic model of the car manufacturers, which consists (in short) in producing and selling cars, it is not clear. Musk has not given official indications about it, but the latest moves of his company suggest that this can be an option. Providing the moves of South African magnate, however, is always very complicated: what is certain is that for Tesla, as well as for many other manufacturers of electric cars and not only, it is a crucial period for several reasons, above all the great competition of the Chinese houses. Observers, but above all investors, therefore keep their eyes open.
