For Coco Gauff at the French Open, it was on the pitch. Before she could even start, she had to iron out a small faux pas.
Unusual moment before Coco Gauff’s first round match at the French Open: The world ranking second was on the pitch-but without its rackets. When opening her bag, the surprise followed: it was empty.
The 20-year-old American reacted with a smile and looked towards her team in the stands. This then sent a ball boy going to get the forgotten material.
“It was fun and made sure that I wasn’t nervous at all,” said Gauff after the game. With the racket in her hand, she clearly won against Gadecki 6: 2, 6: 2 and effortlessly moved into the second round of the French Open.
