After eleven victories in a row, the German tennis hope Joelle Steur had to bury the hopes for her second tournament success. While the 20-year-old should still be satisfied, it set a very surprising bankruptcy for Justin Engel.
In the semi-finals of the W35 tournament in Antalya in Antalya, Joelle Steur (number 691 of the world rankings) on Saturday again showed that she can currently also offer much better-placed opponents, against the Russian Anastasia Gasanova (number 341 of the world rankings), the German Previously defeated eleven victories for the first time. After around 2:31 hours, Gasanova won 6: 1, 4: 6 and 6: 4.
Steur served very strongly once again, but showed annoying in the crucial situations. Gasanova was able to use six of their seven break chances, the key to victory.
However, the triumph in Turkey did not go to Gasanova, but to her just 16-year-old compatriot Alisa Oktiabreva. The vertical starter, who started the world ranking as number 807 of the world ranking, won the final with 3: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4.
Surprising bankruptcy for German tennis talent
In 2025, Oktiabreva only lost one of 14 games on the tour. The title in Antalya was her second as a professional player – and the most valuable so far.
A tournament win was also available in 2025 with Justin Engel (number 345 of the world rankings): The 17-year-old German was able to win the M15 event in Cadolzburg in January, but now it was a surprising bankruptcy.
In qualification for the Challenger tournament in Manama (Bahrain), Engel lost against the Italian Alberto Bronzetti. Bronzetti currently only 1142 in ATP ranking. The 26-year-old has not yet been able to achieve real success on the tour. The clear 6: 1-6: 4 victory against angel already stands out clearly.
