Telstar takes full advantage against FC Den Bosch thanks to Tom Overtoom

Telstar booked a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC Den Bosch in the first division on Sunday afternoon. The celebrated man at Telstar’s side was Tom Overtoom. The midfielder made the liberating winning goal well into the second half.

Telstar started the game without flu recovering David Min and Jay Kruiver. Glynor Plet was also not fit enough and started on the bench, so Cain Seedorf served the two forwards. It was the latter who first became dangerous on behalf of Telstar. After fifteen minutes of play, the Greek striker headed a good cross straight into the hands of Den Bosch goalkeeper Wouter van der Steen.

Telstar had a number of good opportunities to make it 1-0 in the first half hour. Anwar Bensabouh was the closest. The captain’s shot was barely tapped out of the corner by Van der Steen. On the other hand, Victor van den Bogert was still close to scoring the opening goal on behalf of Den Bosch. The defender headed from close range over Ronald Koeman Jr.’s goal, keeping it 0-0 at half-time.

In the second half it was a long wait for a big opportunity from either team. Twenty minutes before the end, Bensabouh played pretty well on the edge of the penalty area. The midfielder’s long shot went through the inside of the post and the keeper’s shoulder out of the goal.

Force

In the last fifteen minutes, trainer Mike Snoei brought in attackers Plet and Rein Smit to force the liberating goal. Finally, the desired goal came in the 78th minute. Bensabouh hit the post again, only this time the ball landed at the feet of Tom Overtoom, who so attentively scored the 1-0. In the final phase, Den Bosch had a great chance of a goal, but Koeman Jr. prevented Faris Hammouti’s equalizer with a nice save.

With the victory, Telstar climbs to tenth place in the first division. Mike Snoei’s team now has 23 points from seventeen games. Telstar will play again this Friday. Then MVV comes to Velsen-Zuid.
