‘Technical manager Gerry Hamstra leaves Ajax’

Technical manager Gerry Hamstra faces a departure from Ajax. That writes the Telegraph. According to the newspaper, Ajax and Hamstra are currently negotiating the buyout of Hamstra’s contract, which runs until 2024.

Hamstra has according to The Telegraph indicated to the club management that he wants to leave. According to the newspaper, this choice is partly due to the fact that Ajax has a new director of football affairs in mind with the English Julian Ward.

Millions of purchases

Hamstra came over from sc Heerenveen in March 2021, where he was technical director at the time. After Marc Overmars was forced to resign at the beginning of 2022, Hamstra became responsible for the technical policy in the Johan Cruijff Arena together with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Last summer, Hamstra was jointly responsible for the appointment of Alfred Schreuder. The million-dollar purchases of Steven Bergwijn, Calvin Bassey and Brian Brobbey, among others, also came from Hamstra and Huntelaar. It is still unclear what Hamstra’s departure means for Huntelaar’s future at Ajax
