Bertus Berghuis would have preferred to see a large row of trees as a natural buffer between Tata Steel and Wijk aan Zee. “Then you show that you are working with nature and you want to make the company greener,” he says. It became a groundbreaking windbreak of one kilometer long, eighteen meters high and with art on it. A pity, but the design of Spat Zuiver could appeal to Bertus: “If it turns out the way I envision it here, then you should be grateful that Tata Steel will do something about it.”
Thijs and Ingwar van Spat Zuiver didn’t do anything overnight with their sketches. They had to take many things into account. The construction of the huge screen, for example: it consists of plates five meters long and eighty centimeters high.
They opted for a kind of ‘pixelated’ background of plates in six shades from white to dark blue. It gives the effect of a picture of the sea merging into the sky. On top of that, the men paint seagulls, surfers, boats, or any other ideas that people could come up with yesterday.

A visitor from Wijk aan Zee who organizes activities on the beach suggested that a so-called blow kart to record, beach go-karts with a sail to race hard over the sand.
Thijs and Ingwar welcomed the idea with open arms. “Yes, that’s nice.” But then they bounce back: “Is it just a bit crazy to see the blowkart in the air, or does the wind sometimes blow them into the air?”
There is something in that, according to the entrepreneur. But still: “Maybe one that is just above the grass and is at the bottom of the screen?”

Also read why there will be a screen:
According to Ingwar, how it will look exactly depends on many things: “Which do people prefer: more or less pictures on the screen, with or without colours, which colours, how much can Tata Steel cost?”
The graffiti artists will soon be allowed to work when the screen is built, because a seagull like the one in the picture is soon about ten meters high. Part by part they will paint it in a shed. “It’s impossible to go out with the wind,” they say.
Free hand for splash clean
Besides the blowkart, other things are mentioned: “Maybe the pier can go on it, or somehow activities that are held on the North Pier.” These suggestions could all be written out or drawn in the suggestion box.
Bertus Berghuis, who can be seen in the video at the top of this article, thinks that the men of Spat Zuiver should now also be given a free hand: “If you hire guys like that who are really good at it, you should also give them the opportunity to do it that way.” do as they want. If you start messing with it, it will be a mess,” he says.
