Glasner out with Crystal Palace

Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC have reached the semi-finals of the English League Cup. The Gunners came from behind to win 3-2 (0-1) at home against Crystal Palace. Liverpool won 2-1 (2-0) at Southampton FC. All three goals for Arsenal were scored by Gabriel Jesus, who has recently been going through a difficult time.

The 27-year-old Brazilian scored his hat-trick in the 54th, 73rd and 81st minutes; he had previously only scored one goal in 20 appearances in 2024/25. The Premier League’s market value update on Monday saw a 15 million euro drop to 45 million euros – the lowest value for Gabriel Jesus since 2017. “I’m very happy for him,” said coach Mikel Arteta after the game. “It was a long time without goals for him, today there were three and they weren’t easy. He looked really good. It’s a great thing for him and the team that we can rely on a player with so much quality – he has a quality that is quite unique.”

Former Mainz professional Jean-Philippe Mateta (4th) gave the guests the lead. Eddie Nketiah (85th) also scored for Oliver Glasner’s team. The striker continued to play for the Gunners until the summer. National player Kai Havertz was rested by Arteta and was not used.

The goals for Liverpool were scored by Darwin Núñez (24th) and Harvey Elliott (32nd). The home team from Southampton only managed to score through Cameron Archer (59th). Newcastle United are also in the round of the last four after beating Brentford FC 3-1 (2-0). The fourth semi-finalists will be played by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United on Thursday (9 p.m.).
