In Southeast, 26 percent of families sometimes have money worries, which is 10 percent higher than the average in the city. As a result, some decide not to use maternity care. This is because a personal contribution of 5.40 euros per hour applies to a non-filling insurance. To meet financially vulnerable families in Southeast, the municipality will pay that personal contribution from November.

“Maternity care is essential for a healthy start for mother and child,” says Marjolein Moorman (youth care and poverty). “Maternity assistants monitor the health of both the mother and the baby, signal any problems, give practical support and advice and help reduce stress by relieving and supporting parents.”

The pilot is being carried out in collaboration with the Emergency Fund and runs until at least at the end of 2028.
