Iga Swiatek has reached the quarterfinals of the French Open despite being behind in a set. She missed five set points in the 87-minute first set – and then benefited from an injury to her opponent.

World number one Iga Swiatek is in the quarterfinals of the French Open despite losing her first set. The Pole won against the Chinese Qinwen Zheng 6: 7 (5: 7), 6: 0, 6: 2 in Paris on Monday and thus celebrated the 32nd win in a row.

Now Pegula is waiting

But this time she had to fight hard and only converted her first match point after 2:45 hours. The 19-year-old Chinese was severely handicapped by a hamstring injury after winning the first set, which lasted a whopping 87 minutes. Swiatek had previously missed five set points in the first, but then turned it up in sets two and three and deservedly secured the win.

In the fight for the semifinals, Swiatek is now up against Jessica Pegula from the USA, who won 4: 6, 6: 2, 6: 3 against the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu.
