Swiatek follows Pegula into the final of the WTA Finals

The Polish Iga Swiatek reached the final at the WTA Finals in Cancun by beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

French Open winner Swiatek won 6:3, 6:2 in Mexico and is now playing against American Jessica Pegula for the title.

Should Swiatek win the final, she would end the season at number one in the world rankings for the second time in a row.

“There’s still a long way to go until then, because I think tomorrow’s game will be the hardest,” said Swiatek: “We can talk about it tomorrow after the game. I’ll just carry on as before.”

The match against Sabalenka on Saturday was canceled after just three service games due to heavy rain and postponed for a day. The final was accordingly postponed to Monday evening.
