After a very successful start to the season, the German ski jumpers have been on the descending branch since December. At the Nordic Ski World Cup in Trondheim, the DSV eagles threaten a medal. Legende Sven Hannawald already speaks of the “worst season” ever.

Routine Pius Paschke had a historically successful start to the World Cup winter, and had even hoped for a German triumph on the four-hill tour with six victories until mid-December. But the 34-year-old could not keep his outstanding form, recently even partially missed the second round.

And even for weeks and months, the other DSV eagles like Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger have hardly been going better. Before the start of the World Cup in Trondheim, a men’s medal seems to be miles away. Ski jumping legend Sven Hannawald sees the cause of the problems in the German ski jumping team, especially in the material.

Ski jumping: DSV chance at most on the small ski jump

“If a complete team does not work, it is always due to the material,” he told “Web.de” emphasized that he does not see any gross mistakes in the technology of Paschke, Geiger and Co. Nevertheless, they “don’t come with you anymore. This is due to material,” analyzed the 50-year-old. The DSV therefore threatens a historic disgrace.

“We are currently at a point where we have to talk about that it could be the worst season at all. You can’t do that many mistakes within this time,” said the 2002 team Olympic champion. Hannawald sees opportunities for precious metal, if at all, when the World Cup jumps for the first time.

“The material does not yet come into play on the small ski jump because the starting speed is not so high. You can come close to the medals there,” predicts the native.
