SVBO wins regional derby against Germanicus and transcends the basement of the first division

In a sun-drenched Emmen, home team SVBO and Germanicus from Coevorden battled in a true regional derby to be allowed to rise above the basement of the first division. SVBO kept control from the start and triumphed 3-0. Winning trainer Arthur van der Veen spoke about a match they had completely under control.

,,We played a very good first half, but we didn’t reward ourselves well”, said Van der Veen. And it was obvious that the first half was a prey for the people of Emmen. Broadly speaking, the home side made the game and forced Germanicus to run after the ball. This did not lead to great opportunities until the 17th minute.

Dylan Wessels was cleared but encountered the excellent keeper Jehovahnis Mendes. Just two minutes later it was hit. Jelmer Scholtens was able to score the 1-0 in free position after Ronald Gerdes had managed to serve him with a beautiful solo over the left flank. Germanicus did little in return, except for two justified yellow cards.

After two SVBO players Ronald Gerdes and Emiel Seigers appeared in front of the keeper twice, but failed to complete, the match seemed to derail for a moment. Stefan Kuper received a yellow card after avoiding a counter by Germanicus. Shortly afterwards, Dylan Wessels received a yellow card after a strong charge, after which bigger brother Davy came to get a story from the referee. This also got him yellow. ,,The brothers sometimes don’t get along, but sometimes they are two hands on one stomach. Also today.” Van der Veen noted with a laugh. Leidsman Endeman whistled shortly after for half time, hoping to calm things down.

The break did indeed manage to soothe the bubbling quarrels. The small disturbances made way for two dangerous attacks from the home team, both of which were promoted to goals. In the 48th minute, Emiel Seigers pushed the ball dry under the outgoing Mendes. Less than three minutes later, Ronald Gerdes managed to bring a long ball under control. This assumption enabled him to simply punch the 3-0 into the goal. The little dribbler was the big man on the side of SVBO. Several times he passed players as if they were pawns.

The fact that his contribution on the scoreboard was limited to one goal was due to Germanicus keeper Mendes who made a few great saves. ,,Ronald Gerdes had been dry for a while. Fortunately, today he kept it a bit simpler in the completion and that’s where we reap the benefits”, Van der Veen looked back with satisfaction. The score was ultimately limited to 3-0. Jan Wielink, trainer of Germanicus, was naturally disappointed. “We weren’t in the game at all. There seemed to be a lot of tension. It will now be very exciting for us at the bottom”, said the losing trainer. Germanicus will want to take revenge at home next week against mid-engine Jubbega. SVBO competes in Winschoten against the highly ranked WVV.
