The sporty negative trend of SV Werder affects the planned extension with coach Ole Werner. According to the “Sport Bild”, it was initially put on hold. The Bremen balance sheet in 2025 is devastating: The 1-0 against Mainz on the 20th matchday is the only win in the last ten games, among which seven defeats can be found, including that in the cup quarter-final at third division Arminia Bielefeld (1: 2).
Until the winter break, the Bremen scored towards Europe before they crashed from seventh to twelve. In the design table since the 16th matchday, this means last place, Heidenheim also won only five points. According to the report, those responsible for Bremen continue to exchange ideas with Werner and his consultant, but focus on the current sporting situation and expect a change.
There are still backing for Werner, as the latest statements by Werder’s managing director Clemens Fritz show at the “Bild”: “We are convinced of Ole and his work one hundred percent. It is known that we want to continue with him beyond 2026. Nothing has changed. As planned, we will conduct future talks regularly, but without time pressure. He is the absolutely suitable trainer for us. ” However, the first half of the season was put together both in the club and around the association that “we do not currently do justice to”.
Werner has been with SVW since November 2021 and won an average of 1.38 points from 118 games. Under him, the green-whites improved, first returned to the Bundesliga before places 13 and nine followed in the upper house. With a belonging of over 1,100 days, Werner is already the coach with the sixth longest term in the history of the club. In the Bundesliga, only Heidenheim’s Frank Schmidt and Kiels Marcel Rapp are currently outstanding. At the age of 36, he was also behind Fabian Hürzeler (32; Brighton) in comparison to Europe’s top-class third-party coach and wants Still (32; Lens).
