Kingdom team after victory over Croatia to semi -final European Baseball
10.30 pm: The Kingdom Team plays on Friday evening in the semi -final of the European Championship baseball against defending champion Spain. The team of national coach Evert-Jan ‘t Hoen defeated Croatia in the Rotterdam family stadium 3-1. Defending champion Spain previously won 7-0 against Great Britain on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
The Kingdom Team qualified for the quarter-finals through victories in Great Britain (9-3), France (13-4) and Israel (9-1). With around 1400 spectators, the family stadium was filled for just over half for the fourth performance of Orange.
Lars Huijer was the winning pitcher at the Kingdom team. Croatia already took the lead in the first inning via Andrija Tomic. The 1-1 came in the same inning in the name of Didi Gregorius. The teams kept each other in balance until Delano Selassa put Orange in the fifth inning with a homerun at 2-1. Hendrik Clementina brought the third point for Orange in the eighth inning.
David Lappartient re -elected chairman Wielerunie UCI
21:20: David Lappartient will also be the chairman of International Wielerunie UCI for the next four years. Just like four years ago, the appointment during the congress in the Rwandan capital Kigali was a formality because there were no counter candidates for the 52-year-old Frenchman.
Lappartient has been leading the UCI since 2017. Before that he was chairman of the French and European Cycling Association UEC. From June 2023 to June 2025, and therefore during the Paris Games, he was also chairman of the Frans Olympic Committee. In March of this year, he grabbed in addition to the chairmanship of the International Olympic Committee. That went to the Zimbabwean Kirsty Coventry.
World Cycling World Cycling in 2031 in the Italian region of Trentino
7.13 pm: The cycling world championships on the road will be held in the Northern Italian region of Trentino in 2031. According to the Italian news agency Ansa, the International Cycling Union UCI has announced this at the Congress in the Rwandan capital Kigali. The World Cup will take place there this week.
The 2031 world championships will be a so-called super-wk, with almost all cycling disciplines. Just like in Glasgow in 2023, several disciplines including road cycling, mountain biking, track cycling and BMX then take place in Trentino.
The World Cup will be held in 2026 in Montreal, Canada. A year later, the French region of Haute-Savoie is host. In 2028 the World Cup was in Abu Dhabi, in 2029 in the Danish capital Copenhagen and in 2030 in the Belgian capital Brussels.
Maple, Zayu and Clutch are the mascots for World Cup in 2026
5.55 pm: The football world championship for next year has three mascots. They are Maple de Eland (Canada), Zayu de Jaguar (Mexico) and Clutch de American Sea Eagle (United States). That reports world football association FIFA in a press release.
“Maple, Zayu and Clutch have been carefully developed to reflect the lively culture, heritage and the spirit of their countries. Together they symbolize unity, diversity and the shared passion for the beautiful sport,” said FIFA chairman Gianni Infantino. “They will conquer and party hearts in North America and the rest of the world. I already see them in children’s shirts, giving high fives to football legends and shine in video games that are played by millions of people worldwide.”
The World Cup has 48 participating countries for the first time next year. The opening match is on 11 June and the final on July 19. The Dutch national team still has to qualify for the World Cup. The last four qualifying matches are in October and November.
Bol, Painter and Van sound candidates for European Athlete 2025
5.51 pm: No fewer than three Dutch athletes are among the ten nominees for the election of European Athlete of the Year. They are Femke Bol, Jessica Schilder and Jorinde van Klinken. The European Athletics Federation has opened the online mood.
Bol conquered the world title in the 400 meter hurdles in Tokyo this month in Tokyo. Painter was the first Dutch to be world champion shot put. Van Klinken surprisingly grabbed the silver when discus throwing.
In 2022 and 2023, Bol was elected to European Athlete of the Year. Last year the Ukrainian high -edge star Jaroslava Majoetsjich won.
The 19-year-old Jarno van Daalen has been nominated for the election of European Talent of the Year. This summer he won gold at the shot put and discus throwing at the European Championship under 20 years old. He can follow Niels Laros, who was elected European talent last year.
The winners will be announced on October 25 during a gala in the Georgian city of Batumi.
Augsburg in the coming weeks without injured leader Gouweleeuw
3.39 pm: FC Augsburg cannot have Jeffrey Gouweleeuw in the coming weeks. The Dutch supplier has left an injury to his right knee to the 4-1 on Saturday of Saturday.

Suzan Lamens ready in Beijing after one round
13.47 hours: Suzan Lamens did not succeed in reaching the second round at the WTA 1000 tournament of Beijing. In the Chinese capital, the Colombian Emiliana Arango was in charge of the 26-year-old player from Berkel en Rodenrijs in two sets: 6-3 6-3.
Lamens reached the quarterfinals at the Seoul tournament last week, after which she rose to 57th place on the world ranking, her highest position so far. In the first set, Arango, who is seven places higher, took the break on the service of Lamens in the sixth game. The Dutch broke back immediately, but then lost its storage again.

Both eights to the final row at the World Cup
8.53 am: Both the Men-Acht and the Women-Tacht reached the final at the World Cup in Shanghai on Thursday. Mick Makker, Jan van der Bij, Finn Florijn, Wibout Rustenburg, Pieter van Veen, Sander de Graaf, Eli Brouwer, Jorn Salverda and mate Jonna de Vries were the fastest in their heat and only had to leave the British and the Italians in time.
Among the women, Tinka Offereins, Ymkje Clevering, Ilse Kolkman, Hermijntje Drenth, Vera Sneijders, Lisanne van der Lelij, Nika Vos, Linn van Aanholt and mate Dieuwke Fetter only needed the Romanian women in their heat. In the other heat, no country was faster than Orange.
