At the center of the investigative activity of the Guardia di Finanza are the tens of millions of euros that have passed through the company’s coffers over time for which the Trieste Prosecutor’s Office hypothesizes money laundering crimes
The Guardia di Finanza of Trieste, on the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Julian capital, is carrying out a search in the historic city headquarters of the Unione Sportiva Triestina Calcio 1918. It seems that the investigations involve numerous administrators who have succeeded one another on the board of directors of the sports club over time, including people of US and Canadian citizenship. At the center of the investigative activity are the tens of millions of euros that have passed through the coffers of the sports club over time for which the Trieste Prosecutor’s Office hypothesizes money laundering crimes. Suspicious money starting from that conferred, in 2023, by a Roman company that would have poured liquidity into Trieste deriving from loans obtained from Banca Progetto (later placed under administration by the Bank of Italy): a story that has long been under the lens of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Milan and Rome. Last December, the latter ordered the searches of the current directors of the Julian company, who were under investigation for the crime of undue receipt of public funds.

In the following years, Triestina received further financial resources from abroad for over 40 million euros, which the Trieste Prosecutor’s Office, according to what we understand, now wants to clarify. The origin of this liquidity can be traced back to an “offshore” US company based in Delaware. According to the accusation, these financial flows that Triestina is the recipient of appear completely contradictory with the financial situation of the sports club which, in the latest balance sheet closed on 30 June 2025, reports a loss of 19 million euros to which must be added a further 40 million euros of losses relating to previous years “frozen” for a five-year period thanks to some law decrees issued by the Conte Government in 2020 during the Covid epidemic. Even more serious is the liquidity crisis manifested by the halberd club, which led the FIGC Federal Court to sanction Triestina calcio with 26 penalty points and fines due to the failure to pay players’ emoluments or for guarantees presented through false guarantees.

In recent days, chronic defaults have also emerged towards the Municipality of Trieste for the payment of the fees and maintenance services of the Rocco stadium for 500 thousand euros and the failure to pay wages to the employees, who are considering strikes and legal action. Finally, a further crime hypothesis contested by the Trieste Public Prosecutor’s Office concerns, from what we understand, tax crimes connected to the use of invoices for non-existent transactions, with which the liquidity received in the accounts of the sports club was then leaked to third parties.

According to what has been learned, the investigations would also involve an “offshore” US company based in Delaware, a subject with unclear profiles and unknown in the business world, which today owns (as can be seen from the balance sheet filed with the Chamber of Commerce) the entire capital of Triestina. This even after the umpteenth change, which occurred in September 2025, in the proprietary assets with the presence of a new “reference shareholder” attributable to the Dogecoin crypto currency, now sponsor of the sports club. After 2023, Triestina received financial resources of over 40 million euros from this company, on which the Trieste Public Prosecutor’s Office now wants to clarify.
