Samsung has revealed its new Smart Glasses at the Galaxy Unpacked event, noting that while the launch is scheduled for autumn, the EU market remains excluded for now.
During the Galaxy Unpacked event in London, Samsung unveiled a fresh design for its Smart Glasses, confirming some technical specifications for the first time. The glasses are developed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, and they aim to complement the designs Google introduced at its I/O event back in May. Initial renderings leaked in April suggest that these glasses bear a strong resemblance to the Ray-Ban Meta. By autumn, a complete collection featuring various styles, colors, and lens options is expected to be available.
Features and Specifications
Under the hood, Samsung has chosen the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1, a three-year-old chipset already utilized in Meta’s glasses. This choice indicates that significant technological advancements may not be in store. When used in mixed scenarios, the battery is anticipated to last up to nine hours, and the charging case can provide energy for up to seven additional full charges.
New to these smart glasses is a gesture control feature that requires a Galaxy Watch 9. In terms of privacy, Samsung mirrors Meta’s approach: an LED indicator will signal active recordings, and a sensor ensures that the camera functions only while the glasses are being worn. If the LED is obstructed, the glasses will not record.
Integration with Samsung’s Ecosystem
One of Samsung’s primary advantages is its deep integration with Android and its Galaxy ecosystem. Through “Split Computing,” processing tasks can be offloaded to the smartphone. Galaxy users will benefit from exclusive AI features, such as summarizing notifications, reading functions, and live translations. Tasks like saving content in Samsung Notes, navigation, and live-streaming the user’s view during a call are also included. While the glasses are compatible with iOS, they are primarily optimized for Galaxy smartphones.
Market Launch and EU Exclusion
Specific pricing or launch dates have not yet been disclosed by Samsung. What is clear is that the release will begin in the USA and the UK this autumn, while the EU must wait indefinitely. Although Samsung has not provided specific reasons for this delay, it may be related to tighter European data protection and AI regulations. Models featuring integrated displays are set to remain a future prospect, with a no-earlier-than estimate of 2027 for market entry. Alongside the glasses, Samsung also showcased new foldable smartphones and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 at the Unpacked event.
