Two suspects of the artok in Assen visited the museum for a month and a half before the theft. However, they deny having stolen the art treasures from the Drents Museum.
Four Romanian gold treasures were stolen from the Drents Museum on 24 to 25 January. The pieces were part of exhibition Dacia – Rich of silver and gold. It is about the golden helmet of Cotofenesti and three gold bracelets.
Two men and a woman from Heerhugowaard were arrested a few days after the robbery. Still later, the police arrested a fourth suspect, also from Heerhugowaard. The woman (40) was released last week, but remains suspicious of involvement in the robbery. The three men (26, 34 and 36 years old) are still detained and must report to the court on 9 May for the first public session.
The lawyers of two of the suspects say to De Telegraaf That their clients were arrested because of found clothing that was dumped in a garbage bench in Assen. The DNA on the clothes corresponded to DNA of the suspects in the national database, in which they stand because of an earlier conviction.
“According to the police, those glass splinters match glasses from the museum. I see that something else. There is a high degree of agreement, but that is something different than a hundred percent match,” says lawyer Dennis Vlielander.
The police are still looking for a fifth person who was recorded in Bouwmarkt in Assen. He is still without a trace.
