Suspected stairwell killer caught in Brandenburg

At the end of February, strangers attacked two men in Gießen, a 56-year-old died and a 52-year-old survived with serious injuries. At the beginning of March, the investigators published a mug shot showing one of the two suspects in the stairwell.

Now it comes out: The police were able to arrest a suspect in the border area of ​​Frankfurt (Oder)/Poland! This is a 43-year-old Georgian.

At the request of the Gießen public prosecutor’s office, the accused was brought before the magistrate of the Fürstenwalde district court. The ordered custody in a prison in the state of Brandenburg – because of the strong suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The 43-year-old had last lived as an asylum seeker in the Hessian initial reception center since early/mid-January 2022 and is expected to go to a Hessian jail in the coming weeks.

According to senior public prosecutor Thomas Hauburger, “the urgent suspicion is based on witness statements, the photos from the surveillance camera that have already been published and the seizure of his ID card in the apartment at the scene of the crime”.

Investigators suspect robbery

The police and public prosecutor’s office now classify the crime as a robbery and murder, since drugs and possibly money were also stolen during the violent attack.
