Mario Balotelli (33)’s time with the Swiss first division relegated team FC Sion is coming to an early end. As the Süper Lig club Adana Demirspor officially confirmed on Deadline Day, the 36-time Italian international is moving to Turkey and has signed a one-year contract with an option for a further season. Consistent media reports in Switzerland had previously suggested that Balotelli and Sion had agreed to terminate the contract, which originally ran until 2024.

Balotelli moved from Adana Demirspor to Sion at the end of August 2022 for more than 2.6 million euros. Since then, he has played 19 games, scored six goals and received an annual salary reportedly equivalent to 3 million euros. However, Balotelli was less noticeable because of his performances and more because of injuries and escapades: In November, for example, he showed the opposing fans the middle finger in the away game in Basel (0-0).
