Super Bowl: 20 percent of the audience cheered on Kelce’s team because of Taylor Swift

For some, the fact that Swift is dating the Kansas City Chiefs player was the deciding factor in the applause.

Taylor Swift, along with celebrity friends like Lana Del Rey, Ice Spice and Blake Lively, rooted for her partner, Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, at the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday (February 11). The US singer was already in the audience at previous games and over time ensured that some Swifties also became more interested in football and Kelce’s team. Finally, thanks to the game broadcasts, we were able to experience more of the musician and what makes her so happy.

What Swift celebrates, many of her fans also celebrate

Now a quick survey by the market research company “Numerator” showed that a total of 20 percent of Super Bowl viewers actually cheered for the Chiefs specifically because of Swift’s relationship with Kelce.

Almost 800 adults (18 years and older) were asked about the end of the game in order to capture the mood after the match and get impressions of the music, commercials and the events.

But not all NFL fans are Swifties

Taylor Swift is in a polarizing position for NFL fans, some of whom think she is a distraction from the actual sport and not just something to celebrate. The reason for the feeling that she could sometimes be a nuisance during the game is, among other things, that the cameras in the respective stadiums tend to be pointed at the 34-year-old several times during the game instead of at the actual team.

In the survey, a total of 34 percent agreed “somewhat” or “strongly” with the statement “I think Taylor Swift is a distraction for the NFL.” However, just as many respondents did not share this view.

Swift at the Super Bowl = THE event

The musician traveled from Tokyo especially to the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the 58th Super Bowl, where she previously gave a concert. The two sealed Kelce’s team’s 25:22 victory with a kiss in the middle of the field – there were lots of people taking photos and filming around them.
