HV Volendam started the European Cup with a bad feeling. The handball players lost in their own Sporthal Opperdam 31-27 to Wacker Thun. The return will be played in Switzerland next week.
Volendam started stronger than the Swiss and quickly rose to 3-1. The game then went back and forth until 12-12. That seemed to be the halftime score, until Wacker Thun struck in the last seconds via Ivan Chernov.

The team of Geert Hinskens therefore had to chase. However, the handball players saw the visitors quickly come to 13-16 in the second half. The margin narrowed as the game progressed, but Wacker Thun kept the lead. As a result, it eventually ended in 31-27.
Next Saturday is the return in Switzerland.
