Summary: Aalsmeer chokes on Hurry-Up and messes up placement for the final

The handball players of Aalsmeer are still far from sure of the final for the national championship. Bert Bouwer’s team lost 26-25 to Hurry-Up. Competitor Volendam surprisingly won 32-29 against Lions and so Volendam and Aalsmeer will fight in the last round to see who goes to the final.

Aalsmeer started the game pale and weak. Many passes went over the sideline and, moreover, four penalty throws were unfortunately missed in the first half. Aalsmeer was therefore behind the facts and faced a surprising 10-15 deficit at half-time.

After the break, the North Hollanders fought their way back into the game and came alongside: 20-20. Then the weather collapsed like a house of cards at Aalsmeer and the visitors from Drenthe took a four-point lead again. With eight seconds left on the clock and with a score of 25-26, Aalsmeer had one more chance to equalize. Vaidas Trainavicius had to do it, but his attempt failed.

Last round

Aalsmeer and Volendam now have to decide in the final round who will face Lions in the final. Aalsmeer has a tough assignment, because they will visit Lions in Limburg next Saturday.

The Volendammers have a much easier opponent. The team of Geert Hinskens has to play in Waalwijk against Tachos. The opponent from North Brabant has not yet won a match in the HandbalNL League this season.
