Substitute Bergwijn contributes to a generous victory for Spurs with a goal

Steven Bergwijn contributed with a goal to Tottenham Hotspur’s royal victory over Newcastle United. The attacker came on the field 10 minutes before the end and was accurate almost immediately. Bergwijn made the 5-1 on a pass from Lucas Moura. Moments later, the former PSV player shot close to Newcastle’s goal from a difficult angle.

Bergwijn returned to London this week with the necessary self-confidence after the international match with the Orange. Although the attacker mainly has to make do with short raids at Spurs, national coach Louis van Gaal gave him a base place in the exhibition game against Denmark last week. Bergwijn paid back that confidence with two goals (4-2) and was also accurate against Germany (1-1) as a substitute on Tuesday.

Fabian Schär gave Newcastle United the lead from a free kick 39 minutes into the game, but Ben Davies soon tied the score with his first Premier League goal in nearly five years. In the first 20 minutes after the break, Spurs went out to 4-1 via goals from Matt Doherty, Son Heung-min and Emerson Royal.

Tottenham Hotspur came through the victory on 54 points, the same as Arsenal who play Crystal Palace on Monday. The Spurs and Arsenal compete with West Ham United and Manchester United (both 51 points) for fourth place in the Premier League, good for a place in the Champions League.
