There is a lot involved before a new transformer is on the new place at the ASSEN-ZEEIJERVEEN high-voltage station tonight. A considerable logistics operation that started through the water and ends tonight through the road.

It is a 220,000 Volt transformer that places Network manager Tennet at the High Tension Station in Assen in order to increase the capacity on the regional electricity grid. The demand for electricity is getting bigger and bigger. According to TenneT, this transformer ensures that electricity from 220,000 volts is converted to 110,000 volts and goes into the region via the Enexis transformers. This creates extra space on the grid to provide households and entrepreneurs with power.

Last week the transformer sailed to Assen by boat. Early this morning the colossus was raised ashore. What makes the operation complicated is, among other things, the weight of the transformer. This weighs 250 tons, which, according to TenneT, is equivalent to around 50 African elephants. And the size of the transformer also makes it complicated. The last one and a half kilometers to the final destination must be done by road. But the transformer is 3.5 meters wide, 4.5 meters high and 11.5 meters long.
