Murder, mystery and history: you can experience it all in the game The Final Print – Dummy Detectives. The computer game by students in Breda won a Dutch Game Award. “Wow, this is just real!” says student Emma Vos, overwhelmed.
“Really cool,” Emma continues, beaming, as she thinks back to Wednesday evening’s ceremony. “We heard our names and jumped into the air! Screaming, surprise!”, she recalls.
Murder
The game is a murder puzzle. It takes place in American Harlem in 1940. You play a journalist and your best friend is falsely accused of murder. All this at a time of racial inequality: people of color often received harsher sentences.
You must unmask the killer to ensure that your girlfriend is released. You take pictures and interview people. This way you get closer to the truth.
The now fourth-year students won the award in the category: Best Student Team. The prize is part of the Dutch Game Week, which took place this week in Breda.

Stuttering
“I forgot to thank my parents. I also had to stutter during the speech,” laughs Emma. “Winning this prize will open many doors,” the student hopes.
About 22 gaming students from Breda University of Applied Sciences worked on the game for a year. “We have come a long way,” sighs Sikandar Maksoedan. “I’m proud of everyone. It turned out really cool.”
Free
The game is free for everyone to play via the well-known online platform Steam. Student Daan Eijkhout is already dreaming internationally: “The dream is that as many people as possible will play it. And that everyone will enjoy it.”
