ROma, 30 Jul. (askanews) – Strong earthquake of magnitude 8.8 on the Richter scale off the Kamchatka peninsula, in the Far East of Russia. It was the strongest earthquake in the region since 1952, with possible shocks of settlement up to a magnitude of 7.5, said the regional seismic monitoring service.
Several people were injured in the peninsula; In the images, rescuers inspect damage to a kindergarten.
Tsunami alerts have taken all the Pacific. Evacuations in Japan, Hawaii and in some areas of the western coast of the United States are underway. Waves up to 3-4 meters high were reported to Kamchatka, while waves of 30 centimeters hit a city in the Hokkaido region in northern Japan.
The governor of Hawaii, Josh Green, asked the population to follow the evacuation orders and to seek calm, while the president of the United States Donald Trump advised the Americans to remain vigilant for tsunami alarms.
Tsunami alarms of various levels have also been emitted in some areas of China, Philippines, Indonesia, Guam, Peru and the Galapagos islands off the coast of Ecuador.
