Rufai was a goalkeeper in the Adelaarshorst in the 1993/1994 season. The special thing was that Rufai was a prince. His father was king of Idimu, a region close to the Nigerian capital Lagos and he was the intended heir to the throne, but saw more in a future as a goalkeeper.
Rufai played 70 times for Nigeria’s national team, with which he won the Africa Cup. He achieved the success with the Super Eagles, as the nickname of Nigeria’s national team, after the season at Go Ahead Eagles.
In addition to Go Ahead Eagles, Rufai was active for SC Lokeren, SK Beveren, Deportivo La Coruña, Hercules and Gil Vicente.
