Streets flooded in Eindhoven: water pipes burst after extinguishing fires

Two streets in Eindhoven were flooded on New Year’s Eve after water pipes burst. This happened in both streets after extinguishing car fires when the fire brigade tried to fill up with extra water.

After extinguishing a car fire in the Hendrik Staetslaan in Eindhoven, the fire brigade wanted to fill the spray truck with water again. When no water came from the first well, the fire brigade tried to fill up with additional water further down the street. When the tap was turned on, the water pipe burst into the street.

Car burned out
The result: a flooded street with brown water. Someone from the water board immediately came to the street to close the leak. The car in Hendrik Staetslaan could still be extinguished, but the fire brigade could not prevent the car from completely burning out.

A little later a car also burned out in the Vaalserbergweg in Eindhoven. The water pipe burst there too when the fire brigade tried to refill the fire truck.
