Among the 2,200 attendees was RTL anchor Katja Burkard, who has made it a personal tradition to kickstart her summer holidays at the Salzburg Festival with her husband. Burkard stated, “Since my husband and I have known each other for 29 years, we begin our summer vacation here in Salzburg with a touch of culture. Showcasing Carmen is a powerful statement, especially as we witness a portrayal of femicide on stage.”
Burkard’s presence, along with that of her husband, media manager Hans Mahr, added a touch of glamor to the festival. Their affectionate demeanor suggested that they were every bit as captivated by the rich artistic environment as the audience around them.
