Straßer fears tough energy saving measures and the stigmatization of sport

Ski racer Linus Straßer hopes that the current energy crisis will not have too great an impact on winter sports and sports in general.

“Measures would have to be implemented in all areas of society,” said the man from Munich on the sidelines of the Alpine World Cup opener in Sölden this weekend. But it is important “that it does not damage skiing in the long term, that would be tragic in my opinion,” said the 29-year-old slalom specialist.

“As professional athletes who practice our profession, we also have a role model function for children and young people to get them into sports and skiing. It would be a shame if we were restricted in this way,” said Straßer. “In the end, it’s not my job to say which measures are right and which are wrong. It would be a shame and I think it’s a wrong sign to stigmatize the sport – whether it’s skiing, swimming or football. Sport is extremely important for the children, the youngsters, but also for society.”

Against the background of exploding electricity and gas prices, the organizers of the Alpine World Cup races are also threatened with enormous costs this winter.
